Southwell Running Club

SRC’s second social event of the summer, the Peregrination – a sort of pilgrimage or a walk – looking at the interesting sights of Nottingham (yes there are some) was well supported in July. Anyone who has not been through the tunnel from Derby Rd into The Park, go there now, you will be impressed. I also found out that there is an award winning public toilet just off the Market Square, no need to use Debenhams’s facilities now!

July 13th was the date of SRC’s annual River Relay race when family members and friends make up teams of three to run the three-leg relay race, John Cummins had the difficult job of handicapping the teams. The winners were team Edinborough lead by mum Heather along with Matty and Jo. It was a damp affair with rain and wind, the chips and beetroot sandwiches afterwards were most welcome.

A special mention for Paul Butcher who ran the Newark Notfast 10K He finished an excellent second out of 243 runners in 35:53, a time most runners never get anywhere near.

Frances McKinnon came third overall in the Holme Pierrepont Grand Prix Series with Bruce Danby 19th; Isobel and Richard Beadle, Gill Tivey, Anne Hegarty and Anne Wilde also completed the series of four races.

A lot of SRC’s members were holidaying in August. I have just finished packing to go away and can blame Ryan Air’s draconian luggage weight restrictions for not taking my running shoes. So for the next two weeks I really will be…..
