Social Although running is at the core of SRC many of our members wish to get more out of the club than just running so we have a very lively social side.
Following most of the internal club races and many of the external ones too, members tend to gather at a convenient pub in the locality, where we exchange gossip and expose the theory that runners abstain from the pleasures of good food and drink!
Events are also organised during the year when we can forsake our running shoes and shorts, put on our casual gear (or party clothes for the more adventurous) and enjoy the Summer and Christmas Parties. Recent successful themes have been formal dinners, barbecues, a hog roast, discos, barn dances and a quiz night. We have also provided dance evenings to live bands and joined with Caythorpe Cricket club to organise various other events.
Successful
events that combine running with socialising include weekends in the
Lake District or other equally attractive (and challenging) areas.
There is also the annual Bramley Challenge at Caythorpe Cricket Club
where runners from Southwell, Notfast and Holme Pierrepont compete over
a five mile course. Finishing positions are taken for each club and
these are added up and divided by the number of runners to calculate
each team's average position. The club with the lowest average wins the
Bramley Apple trophy for the year. The event is rounded off with chips,
sandwiches and beer in the bar. As always we are grateful to CCC for
their hospitality. This year's event was held on 15 September 2011 and
the results can be seen by clicking on Bramley Challenge.
