Runners Embark on Summer League Race Season

Fourteen members of Southwell Running Club took part in the first of the Notts. AAA Summer League Races at Newark Showground.

The event, which is hosted by Newark running clubs, took place on a wet and windy evening. However, the conditions did not deter more than 600 runners from 20 different clubs from sprinting their way around the exposed route presented by the showground. The SRC veteran women's team finished in 9th place and the men's team finished 11th.

Additional club news saw Nigel Whitmore, Sarah Mckie and Jess Coyle all completing their first marathons. Sarah's hilly course, which she completed in 4:34:45 took her through the countryside around Boston Lincolnshire, whilst Nigel took on the equally challenging Leeds Marathon, crossing the finishing line in 3:39:45. Jess's slightly longer and very much hillier 27-mile trail took her out onto the Taff Trail and around the Taly-bont Reservoir at Brecon Beacons and included some particularly challenging downhill sections. Jess finished as 4th lady in a time of 6:08:01.

Finally, Louise Flisher took on her first half marathon in Birmingham, crossing the finish line in 1:59:58.
