Grand Prix Race and Xterra UK

This week, Southwell Running Club members lined up on the start line for their one mile Grand Prix race down at Racecourse Rd. This challenge involves sprinting a mile to try to beat your previous times and achieve a PB. While this is considered a tough trial, all members enjoy putting in the effort. Kayne Rukas came home first in a PB time of 5:48, Richard Clarke and Steven Tomlinson also achieved notable PBs.

In other club news, Pam Dutton was once again taking on an extreme challenge in the hills around Weston Park, Shropshire at the off-road triathlon known as Xterra UK. Pam commented that although the setting for the event was absolutely beautiful, the 1.5 mile lake swim, 25K of technical mountain biking and 10K trail running had many challenges. In particular the bike course had a very soft and slow surface and sapped the energy from your legs, while the 10K run was very technical with many climbs and difficult surfaces. Alistair Brownlee won the race in 2hrs 4mins passing Pam on her first lap of the bike course! Pam came home in 4hrs 4mins and was first in her age category achieving a place in the Xterra World Championships. Pam was delighted to have completed the event and thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you have taken on a personal running challenge recently or are just returning to running following injury and would like support with training, please join us at 6:45 on a Tuesday evening outside the Minster School.
